big thank you to all the volunteers who joined us May 6th & June 3rd to dig
in the dirt on Empress Bypass. If you missed out, not to worry, the next trail
day is June 23rd! (sign up here)
After last year's successful work on
re-routing Bottletop, NSRide is excited to again participate in NSMBA's TAP program. Partnered with Different Bikes, and under the guidance of Daniel Liu and
Darryl Marlatt, this year we've adopted Empress and Empress Bypass. So far, the
focus has been on Empress Bypass, with plans to improve drainage, some slight
trail realignment, and repair of rock work and berms.
We were greeted with perfect dry conditions for
our first trail day May 6th. Working our way up from the bottom, inital efforts
were devoted to smoothing out the main sections of the trail. Drainage ditches
were cleaned out, rock work repaired, grade reversals added, and the worked on
areas topped off with gold dirt for a smooth, flowy ride. On June 3rd the focus
of the work was on rebuilding some of the lower berms. Great work was done by
all who turned out each trail day; a total of 19 volunteers on May 6th, and 16
on June 3rd.
Thanks also to the generousity of our newest
sponsor Safeway, no trailworker went hungry. Tasty croissant sandwiches,
vegetables & fruit helped fuel our labours. Muffins and other goodies
supplied by club members made lunches just a little sweeter.
If you'd like to join us on June 23rd, please sign up on the forum here. Anyone can volunteer for a
trail day, no experience necessary.
